How do I apply for a grant?
What's our purpose?
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Choir San Diego (MLKCCSD) is a non-profit
charitable organization. The Choir's purpose is to raise funds for educational
grants through a series of concerts. The proceeds from these concerts are
distributed to aspiring college-bound high school Fine Arts students majoring in
Music, Art, Drama and Dance from the San Diego County area.
What happens with the money?
We use the money for the scholarship grants for the students.
All the efforts by the choir members including the director are voluntary so
that as much of the money we raise as possible can go toward the scholarships.
How do I donate?
If you would like to support the cause of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community
Choir San Diego, please mail your tax-deductible donation to:
MLKCCSD
P.O. Box 40362
San Diego, CA 92164-0362
Thank you very much!
How do I book a Concert?
If you would like to have us come sing at your church or venue, contact
Derrick Gilliam.
We generally do concerts with the entire choir
of 60 to 80 so please make sure the venue has room to hold the whole choir.
How do I join the Choir?
The choir has a set membership throughout the season, so we can only accept new
members at the beginning of the season. If you would like to join the choir, we
hold auditions in September. There will be a simple audition for new members.
We are looking especially for more male voices.
How do I apply for a Grant?
MLKCCSD is looking for creative, artistic high school seniors who have a GPA of 2.75 or higher,
are residents of San Diego County, and intend to continue pursuing their art by attending a
university, accredited four-year college, community college, conservatory, or art school.
For more information and to download an application, see the Grants page.
